Meet Dr. Nyakya T. Brown, LMHC, CASAC

Dr. Nyakya T. Brown is a licensed mental health counselor and credentialed substance abuse professional who brings over 15 years of compassionate clinical experience to individuals and communities seeking mental wellness and emotional healing. Her work is grounded in integrity, empathy, and service.

As the Mayor of the Village of South Floral Park—elected by the people in March 2022—Dr. Brown leads with a servant heart, combining her mental health expertise with public service to create holistic solutions for community well-being. She is also an educator and trainer, providing guidance to leaders, professionals, and organizations on mental health best practices, stress reduction, and sustainable leadership.

Dr. Brown’s therapeutic approach is integrative and person-centered, thoughtfully weaving together Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) techniques, and trauma-informed care. She has provided mental health and substance abuse treatment services in respected organizations including CREATE, Inc., Samaritan Daytop Village, Interborough Developmental & Consultation Center, and Creedmoor Addiction Treatment Center. As Director of Social Services with CORE Service Group, she served New York City’s homeless population with compassion and practical support. She also previously provided online counseling through BetterHelp.com.
Today, Dr. Brown offers secure, HIPAA-compliant online mental health services, ensuring accessible, confidential, and high-quality care for clients seeking support from the comfort of their own space.​ Her diverse clinical experience includes working with individuals navigating depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, relationship challenges, parenting, career transitions, OCD, ADHD, PTSD, and learning disabilities. Dr. Brown also offers therapeutic support for survivors of emotional abuse and physical trauma.

Educationally, she earned her Doctor of Ministry in Community Sustainability from Virginia Union University, her Master’s in Mental Health Counseling from Nyack College, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Howard University. She is also a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC), trained through the Outreach Training Institute.
