About 

Nyakya Brown

Nyakya has served the Greater NYC Area and has worked with organizations such as CREATE, Inc., Samaritan Daytop Village, Interborough Developmental & Consultation Center, and Creedmoor Addiction Treatment Center to provide mental health and substance abuse treatment services.  She has also worked with New York City’s homeless community, while serving as a Director of Social Services with CORE Service group.  She also works with Betterhelp.com to provide online counseling services for individuals.

 

Her wide range of work experience has afforded her the opportunity to work with both men, women, and children from all cultures, races and socioeconomic backgrounds.   Her training and experience have also provided her with the foundation in which her integrative therapeutic approach derives from.  Her person-centered approach has woven into it, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), with a sprinkle of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).

 

Nyakya Brown earned her Master's in Mental Health Counseling in 2014 from Nyack College and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Howard University in 2001. In 2016, she earned and became a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC), receiving her training from Outreach Training Institute.  She has created and facilitated recovery groups that focuses on the lifestyle, mindset, application, and resources necessary for a successful recovery, throughout New York City.

 

For over a decade, Nyakya has provided support for individuals and their families in search of understanding, education, and action steps regarding mental wellness and healthier lifestyles.  She seeks to assist in improving the overall quality of life for all of her clients. 

 

In her private practice, she works with individuals who struggle with depression, grief, anxiety, relationship dynamics, parenting, career direction, life transitions, OCD, ADHD, PTSD, and learning disabilities.  She also provides services for individuals who have experienced physical trauma and/or emotional abuse. 

Nyakya T. Brown (M.A., LMHC, CASAC) is a NYS Licensed Mental Health Counselor. She also has specialized knowledge, training and experience in addiction recovery.
