Supporting the People
Who Spend so much of
Their Lives Supporting Other

Caregiving is an expression of love, commitment, responsibility, and service. Yet caring for someone else—especially over an extended period of time—can quietly take a toll on the person providing the care.

Caregivers are often focused on what needs to happen next: the appointment, the medication, the phone call, the meal, the paperwork, the family decision, the emergency, or simply making sure someone they love is okay.

In the midst of caring for everyone else, it can become difficult to recognize when you need care, too.

Caring for the Caregiver creates space for the person behind the responsibility.

Love does not eliminate exhaustion. You can be deeply committed to someone and still feel tired, anxious, frustrated, isolated, or unsure of how much more you can carry. These feelings do not diminish your love. They are reminders that caregivers are human, too, and sometimes need a safe place to acknowledge what they are carrying.

You Can Love Deeply
and Still Feel Overwhelmed

Caregiving Looks Different for Everyone

There is no single caregiving story. You may be supporting an aging parent, a spouse or partner, a child, a relative living with illness or disability, or someone whose needs have gradually become part of your everyday life. Whether caregiving began suddenly or developed over time, your experience is uniquely yours—and the support you need should honor that.

My commitment to caregivers is informed by both professional experience and doctoral research. My research, Caring for the Caregiver: African American Women of Faith Called to Rest, explored the often-unrecognized emotional weight carried by women who consistently care for others. That work continues to shape my commitment to helping caregivers recognize their own needs, make room for rest, and receive support without guilt.
